I recently got the chance to pick out something from Uncommon Goods to review. Fun! Presents in the mail? Let’s do this!
The person who reached out to me asked if I wanted the following items:
Being a minimalist, I wasn’t so keen on those items. But Uncommon Goods has a bunch of items — surely I could get something practical instead! (Yes, only wanting practical items does make me difficult to shop for — why do you ask?)
I found what I wanted, then asked if I could have these Recycled Soda Bottle Glasses instead. I felt guilty, a little, because what kind of person says, “oh hey thanks but can I have something else?” when they’re approached.
This girl, evidently.
But I love these. They’re thick, the glass has many bubbles in it, and it makes for a more fun glass of ice water (or, more recently, when all the coffee mugs were dirty, it was awesome for coffee).
Uncommon Goods is the kind of website where you buy things for other people. You do not buy things for yourself. See, a set of four glasses for $68 just wouldn’t be something I could possibly justify, since that’s more than the rest of my glassware cost me, combined.
But these are my favorite glasses, so I’m glad I have them.
And if someone bought them for me (let’s say they had to drink water out of a coffee mug, for example) I would appreciate them and think nice things about them every time I used the glass.
In conclusion: Check out their gifts — I think you could find practical, yet whimsical things for the people in your life that are hard to shop for.
