The other day, I mentioned that I was frustrated with the seemingly slow progress of operation: eliminate all consumer debt, and once again, I found myself astounded by the quality of comments. You are all amazing writers, and the community is wonderful. I was reminded that as long as the graph still trends down, I’m doing just fine, and that March really isn’t THAT far away.
Yet, there are still hiccups. It’s May 9th and I’ve already spent a ton of money. It makes me feel guilty and uneasy. I bought two airplane tickets to see the voice of reason in California, which were about $400 total.
Then, I was working remotely, and my computer couldn’t keep our customer database open when I also had the internet open. So, somewhat impulsively, I bought a new laptop. And a squishy bag. There goes another $400.
And it’s the 9th. In my free-spending days, this would have been no big deal. I’ll just pay it off next month, I’d tell myself, knowing really that it wouldn’t be paid off next month, or even the next.
Now, it comes out of savings/emergency fund. I need a working laptop to do my day job, my part-time job, and my supposed side job of selling jewelry on eBay.
Selling Jewelry on eBay
I went to my favorite store, Goodwill, and bought a vase filled with jewelry. It set me back $80. My plan is to photograph things individually and list them online. Now I’m worried I won’t be able to make back my initial investment, since the vase was filled with ugly stuff, and only one thing was marked silver.
All of these add a bit of anxiety to my life. But I have found that I tend to be the most productive, creative, entrepreneurial version of myself when there’s a bit of anxiety.
Yesterday, the $100 Startup came in the mail. I will post a book report when I get past the introduction, but it totally appeals to me. So far, it reads like a fairy tale.
What happens when you start feeling anxiety? Do you beat yourself up? Do you get inspired?
I know for me, there’s no more spending this month on anything other than groceries, and even those will be mainly vegetables to stretch out the meat in my freezer.
And I’ll be hustling. Working harder in my day job, working more on my side job, selling jewelry, building a portfolio, and otherwise trying to find extra income!
