Hi, Well Heeled! I don’t know you very well, so I’m very excited that you are willing to be a part of this!
What’s your story (your elevator pitch, if you will)?
I’m a 20-something college graduate making my way in the world. Married to my high school sweetheart, we are navigating a cross-country marriage while trying to save enough for our future, but still indulge in the little luxuries that make life extra sweet. One of my favorite (and free!) things to do is checking out open houses. My dream home is a Spanish or Tudor bungalow with lots of windows and a deep soaking tub.
What made you decide to start a blog?
I originally started Well Heeled Blog as a lifestyle blog. After a few weeks, I realized that I couldn’t afford 90% of the things I was blogging about. I found that EXTREMELY depressing, started reading personal finance blogs, and decided I should blog about something that’s better for me (aka saving money) instead of something that will make me covet all the things I can’t have.
Why are you anonymous? Do you think that will ever change?
I’m not 100% anonymous, but I prefer not to be “Google-able.” Maybe it’ll change, but I’m not sure when.
Oh, thank you for this picture — you are so cute!
What’s your next project?
Can getting an offer from my summer internship and finishing graduate school be a project? :-)
I think so, yes!
What part of the country do you live in? Do you think that will change?
I grew up in California but now live on the East Coast. My summer internship is in Texas and the odds are high that I will end up in Texas for a few years after graduation.
What’s the best thing about blogging?
The friends I’ve made – two were at my wedding and there are several more cool folks/friends/mentors that I wouldn’t have met had it not been for the blog.
What’s the hardest thing about blogging?
Getting into the writing rut and having to climb out of it!
Do you blog full time? If not, what do you do during the work day?
I am going to school full-time right now. Before school, I worked in professional services. After graduation, I’d like to go into consulting.
Are you an introvert or an extrovert?
I’m an introvert who doesn’t like to be alone for too long and who can pretend to be a good extrovert for an evening. Ideally, I like to hang out with 1-2 really good friends.
Coffee or tea? What do you put in it?
Both! I put a lot of milk and sugar in my coffee, and I put honey in my tea.
What would you have as your last meal? Rules of this game: you’re not sick, and you have a super stomach which will allow you to eat more calories than normal.
My mom’s fried rice. Then a piece of chocolate. Then ice cream – I like lavender and strawberry flavors.
I love ice cream! I loathe lavender stuff though, so you can have all of that.
Name one thing in real life that drives you crazy.
Name one thing on the internet that drives you crazy.
What’s the best (or “best”) pickup line you’ve ever heard or said?
Haha. I know some but I’d prefer not to put them online.. .they aren’t very PG!
You realize this only makes me want to know the answer to this more, right? Good thing I write like a sweet old grandmother, or I’d be pushing you for this answer. :)
You’re a newlywed. Tell us the proposal story.
My husband took me to a bed-and-breakfast in San Diego and proposed after brunch. I was feeling a little peeved because I’ve been trying to show him pictures of rings I liked all weekend and he just couldn’t be more disinterested. Turned out that he already had the ring and was just trying to find the perfect moment to ask.
Aww, what a sweet ball of nerves! I bet you understood his silence a lot better after that!
What’s the funniest prank you’ve played on someone?
I’m not a good prankster – I smile really big every time I get nervous and I can’t help but laugh anticipating the prank-ee’s reaction and therefore give away the whole prank before it can be implemented.
What are some of your favorite books? Just the ones that come to mind, they don’t have to be the very best books of all time.
- The Hours by Michael Cunningham
- Young adult fiction (Little House series and Nancy Drew series)
- Historical fictions by Alison Weir
- The Botany of Desire by Michael Pollan
Same with movies. What are some of your favorites?
- Before Sunrise, Before Sunset (and I’m sure I’ll love Before Midnight as well!)
- Most of the movies with Marvel/comic-book characters
Who would play you in the movie version of your life?
I like Ellen Page and Kristen Bell, although I look nothing like them.
Have you ever been in a fight? Did you throw the first punch?
Nope, not on purpose. My friends did try to kidnap me for a surprise birthday party in college – they threw a blanket over my head, I panicked, and started swinging. I accidentally gave my friend a split lip and a nosebleed.
Unintentional fighter, look at you!
Do you have now, or have you ever had, a tattoo? If so, details, please!
Nope. I am not going anywhere near needles unless it’s medically necessary.
Where’s your next vacation?
Undecided… that will depend on money and time. And I’m learning that when I have one I am usually in short supply of the other! Ah the joys of adulthood…
Please share a joke.
Q: Why can’t the bicycle stand on its own?
A: Because it’s TWO-tired!
Ha! Okay, I liked that one a little too much. :) Thanks so much for playing! Tune in next week for another episode of “Get to Know Another Blogger”.
