Googling “best rewards credit card” gives me too many results. I can’t handle all that!
So, I went to mint.com, where they store all of my important information in exchange for some affiliate links. They recommended one with 3% cash back at the grocery store (probably the place where most of my money goes) and I applied.
It was the American Express cash back blue something or other.
I didn’t get approved.
I’m so much more familiar and comfortable with my finances that this didn’t seem right. So I called, and talked to someone who explained that my FICO score was too low for this card. My FICO score is 700, which is good information to know, but what really got me was that the credit card company declined my application because (wait for it) I closed that Bank of America card and it seems I have very little in the way of credit history.
