I logged into my trusty Mint account (jeez, you’d think I’d come up with the thing with how often I mention it!) and it said at the top: “Warning! You have been hit with a $95 annual fee! Click here to find a credit card without fees.”
Oh, snap. There’s hardly anything else that brings out my inner “oh no you didn’t!” attitude than unfair charges. So, I got on the phone.
“Hi, I’m calling because I logged into my account and found a $95 annual fee. I didn’t think here would be an annual fee,” I said in a calm voice.
“Oh, yes, there is an annual fee. Let me do something special this time and remove that for you.”
“Oh, thank you very much.”
“We just want you to have an enjoyable experience using your credit card.”
“Is there anything else I can help you with today?”
“No, thank you.” I’m all set, now that I don’t have to pay $95 for the simple joy of using your credit card, where you charge merchants a transaction fee and jerks who don’t pay their balance an interest rate.
Then I logged into my student loan, and put that “found money” toward next month’s bill.
Victory achieved. Inner “oh no you didn’t” calmed. Happy. Camper.
