Here’s the thing. We live in this great country where we get to practice little-d democracy every single day, and not just around election time.
We get to vote with our dollars, and I’d like to take a moment to ask you to avoid the Salvation Army.
Why? They discriminate.
Further, they believe that gays should be put to death. They try not to hire gays, and they try to fire them when they accidentally slip up. Same-sex couples are denied shelter when they show up at the Salvation Army.
Donate your clothes somewhere else.
Don’t give money to the bell ringer (but don’t yell at them, either, they’re obviously not the Army’s top brass).
Don’t shop at Salvation Army.
Consider the alternatives, please! Goodwill is my thrift store of choice, both for donating and shopping. I’ll link to my favorite place to find worthy charities as soon as it goes live. Just not the Salvation Army.
We need to be more loving, not more hateful. So let’s not give money or clothes or household goods to a place that brings hate on a group of people who have enough hardship.
